Internship - CFD Combustion Engineer
- John Van Aelstyn @ 6:03 pm PST
Jansen Combustion and Boiler Technologies, Inc. (JANSEN) is looking for an intern to supplement and expand our capabilities for CFD modeling of industrial boilers. JANSEN is a small but well-established boiler engineering company, located in Kirkland, WA. JANSEN provides engineering services and equipment for improving the operation of biomass- and waste-fired boilers. JANSEN uses FLUENT CFD modeling software, along with customized routines for the specialized aspects of biomass fuel combustion. An intern would work under direct supervision of a senior engineer to learn how to set up and run parametric boiler evaluations. This would entail mesh generation, calculation of boundary conditions, and some post processing and reporting. In addition, the intern would be expected to further develop a specialized sub-model (such as for NOx prediction, particle carryover, grate combustion, etc). Previous academic (or work) experience or interests should include at least some of the following: • knowledge of CFD modeling and commercial CFD software • computer programming under Windows OS, in FORTRAN, C++, or Visual Basic • experience with the use of meshing programs, CAD, and different graphical formats • knowledge of fluid mechanics • use of Excel spread-sheets • ability to write reports and make presentations • desire to work as part of a team on projects • aptitude for mechanical systems This position could include occasional travel and fieldwork for data collection. JANSEN is currently undergoing expansion and it is expected that an internship could develop into a permanent position, if mutually agreeable. Candidates interested only in a permanent position are also welcomed to apply and will be given consideration. In addition to sending your resume, please forward a letter stating your qualifications.
Process/Combustion Engineer
- John Van Aelstyn @ 6:02 pm PST
Jansen Combustion and Boiler Technologies, Inc. (JANSEN) is looking to fill a permanent engineering position to supplement and expand our capabilities in evaluating combustion processes in industrial boilers. JANSEN is a small but well-established boiler engineering company, located in Kirkland, WA. JANSEN provides engineering services and equipment for improving the operation of biomass- and waste-fired boilers. JANSEN performs detailed field measurements and analytical calculations to characterize the performance of industrial boilers in support of consulting and engineering services. A process/combustion engineer would work under direct supervision of a senior engineer to learn how to collect field data from hand-held and plant instrumentation, set up and run parametric boiler evaluations, and report findings and recommendations. This would entail interaction with clients; use of analytical instruments to collect field data; spread sheet calculations of combustion, heat and mass balances, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics; and reporting. Previous academic (or work) experience or interests should include at least some of the following: • a B.S. or M.S. (preferred) degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering • knowledge of basic combustion principles • familiarity with heat transfer and pressure drop calculations • experience with the use of analytical equipment to make field measurements (O2, CO, NOx, temperature, pressure, etc.) • use of Excel spread-sheets • ability to write reports and make presentations • desire to work as part of a team on projects • aptitude for mechanical systems This position includes occasional travel and fieldwork for data collection – approximately one week per month.
