Adequate water circulation is necessary to maintain the temperature of boiler water below critical levels. This is particularly important for recovery boilers since the overheating and failure of a furnace wall or screen tube could critically expose the boiler to a smelt water explosion. There are fundamental criteria that can be used to determine the potential for tube overheating. These criteria can be applied using circulation calculations and flow measurements to identify potential problem areas.
