Recovery Boiler Air Systems
The recovery boiler is at the heart of a mill’s operations. Often base loaded, its through-put and up-time are critical factors in the mill’s profitability. But many RBs are decades old and improving them to meet increasing demand for paper machine output can be a test of engineering expertise.
Improving the combustion air profile and control is a requirement for increasing the amount of liquor burned in the boiler. Jansen’s patented High-energy Multi-range Combustion Air Nozzle™ provides the volume, pressure, and velocity needed to ensure cross boiler penetration and turbulent mixing at all expected loads.
Jansen has retrofitted over 30 recovery boiler air systems. The capacity gains over previous operation have been in the range of 20% to 50%, with TRS release well below 5 ppm. Also, boiler pluggage and air emissions have been decreased due to the improved combustion conditions.
Scope of Services
Typical upgrade engineering services from Jansen include:
- In-house CFD modeling to optimize design features of the modifications.
- Redesign of the air delivery and distribution system, including multi-level air supply, fans (if needed), ducting, ports, and air nozzles.
- Redesign of the liquor delivery and firing systems, including piping, liquor heaters, gun ports, and liquor nozzles.
- Redesign of boiler pressure parts (Jansen has ASME S-stamp certification) and auxiliaries for improved operation, reduced pluggage, additional capacity, or other purposes.
- Implementation of DNCG incineration.
