CFD COMBUSTION ENGINEER
Jansen Combustion and Boiler Technologies, Inc. (JANSEN) is seeking to fill a permanent engineering position to conduct CFD combustion modeling projects on industrial boilers.
JANSEN is a well-established, boiler consulting and equipment supply company, located in Kirkland, WA.
JANSEN provides engineering services and equipment for improving the operation of boilers burning natural gas, oil, coal, spent pulping liquors, refuse derived fuels, and biomass (wood, bagasse, agricultural wastes, etc.).
JANSEN uses commercial CFD modeling software, along with customized routines for specialized aspects of solid and liquid fuel combustion. The successful applicant will independently utilize CFD software to provide solutions to customers, and support JANSEN upgrade design projects. The job also entails maintenance, documentation, and further development of specialized CFD-based sub-models. Additionally, the position would support JANSEN’s process/combustion engineering group on boiler consulting projects, including field data collection from hand-held and plant instrumentation, setup and run parametric boiler calculations, and prepare study reports.
This position requires 3-5 years of engineering experience utilizing CFD software.
Recent graduates with M.S. or higher degrees will also be considered providing course work includes CFD modeling of combustion processes.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Working knowledge of CFD modeling and commercial CFD software, preferably using ANSYS Fluent software (minimum of 1 year preferred).
- Computer programming under Windows OS. Use of FORTRAN, C++, and Visual Basic will be needed.
- Experience with the use of meshing programs, CAD, and different graphical formats.
- Strong knowledge of fluid mechanics and combustion.
- Experience with combustion and finite rate reaction schemes.
- Demonstrated ability to write reports and give presentations.
- Ability to independently work on CFD projects while collaborating with our team of engineers.
- Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering (M.S. or higher preferred).
This position includes occasional travel (domestic and international) and fieldwork for data collection – approximately one week every two months.
Required Preconditions for Employment:
- The job opening is not for a remote position. The candidate would be required to work from the JANSEN office in Kirkland, WA. However, consideration will be given for some occasional days for working from home.
- The candidate will need to be physically able to walk up and down stairs, and occasionally climb ladders, scaffolds, etc. and at times be able to work for short periods in high heat areas.
- The candidate would need to be lawfully present in the USA and have authorization to work in the USA. JANSEN is currently unable to sponsor employment visas.
The base salary range for this position is $80,000-$140,000. The salary range is determined by education, experience and additional role-related considerations. MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Jansen Combustion and Boiler Technologies, Inc. is seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer to join our Design and Construction group. The desired candidate will have knowledge and experience in design of large industrial power boiler systems including boiler pressure parts, combustion air, flue gas, and boiler auxiliary systems.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Preparation of process flow diagrams and conceptual designs for support of sales efforts.
- Writing proposals, creating cost estimates and preliminary scope of work and schedule.
- Site visits to gather dimensional information and client drawings to design new equipment.
- Preparation of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code calculations.
- Piping design and pipe stress calculations.
- Coordinating mechanical designs with the Lead Designer to create fabrication drawings for new equipment.
- Performing shop inspections for purchased and in-house designed equipment.
- Providing Construction Observation during the installation of the equipment.
Qualified Candidates will have:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years’ experience in related work.
- Obtained an EIT license with the ability to get a PE license.
- The ability to travel up to 10% – 20% of the year.
- Experience in the following design / engineering standards – ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code; ASTM materials and B31.1; National Board Inspection Code (NBIC).
- The strong ability to read flow diagrams, P&IDs, mechanical layout and structural drawings and be able to visualize and convey design concepts for existing and new equipment.
- Team player with good communication skills to work with other engineering disciplines, designers, vendors and clients.
- The ability to work productively with minimal supervision and be self-motivated with project organizational skills.
- Field experience with an interest in learning and supporting other aspects of boiler design are a plus.
- The ability to work in our office located in Kirkland, WA. Please note this position is not eligible for remote working.

AUTOCAD DESIGNER/DRAFTER, MECHANICAL
We are seeking a full time mechanical AutoCAD designer/drafter with experience in industrial power design for boiler systems including pressure parts and air & flue gas ducting. This position is responsible for the production of arrangement and fabrication drawings for boiler system equipment, including but not limited to combustion air, flue gas, piping, process flow diagrams and boiler pressure part components.
Responsibilities include:
- Drafting original drawings with AutoCAD to company drawing formats for mechanical systems. Drawings are primarily 2-D, although some 3-D drawings are developed.
- Maintaining an organized set of up-to-date drawings for on-going projects.
- Preparation of process schematics (process flow diagrams) and conceptual drawings to support sales efforts.
- Preparation of general arrangement drawings for mechanical systems in industrial facilities.
- Preparation of mechanical detail drawings for fabricated assemblies of ducting and equipment.
- Preparation of ASME Code pressure part fabrication drawings.
- Checking the work of other designers and drafters.
- Some travel required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Associates degree or certificate in mechanical design or drafting.
- A good working knowledge and experience using AutoCAD.
- 3+ years experience in related work.
- Drafting capabilities in the following design/engineering standards – ASME pressure vessels; ASTM materials; mechanical details for shop fabrication
- The ability to work accurately and quickly in a schedule-driven environment.

REGIONAL SALES MANAGER
Jansen Combustion and Boiler Technologies, Inc. (JANSEN) is seeking to fill Regional Sales Manager positions. Positions are available in the South USA region. JANSEN is a small, well-established, boiler consulting and equipment supply company, located in Kirkland, WA. JANSEN provides engineering services and equipment for improving the operation of boilers burning natural gas, oil, coal, spent paper mill chemical, and biomass (wood, bagasse, agricultural, etc.).
The Regional Sales Manager reports to the President.
Responsibilities:
- Directly manage and lead the sales efforts with clients in collaboration with the internal Process and Design teams.
- Directly interface with clients on the project requirements, technical aspects and features and benefits of JANSEN systems. Present sales and technical materials as required.
- Manage sales related activities, status and projections through proposal tracking system.
- Gain technical knowledge of the JANSEN products and technologies with internal training, continuing education and study.
- Develop and manage relationships with key clients.
- Participate in conferences and industry trade associations.
- Develop and execute an individual sales plan.
- Perform market and territory analysis.
- Contribute marketing content and ideas, participate in the company marketing strategy.
- Actively participate in team meetings, company training events and special events.
- Complete various reports, sales plans and sales forecasts as required.
Required Skills and Experience:
- High performing, enthusiastic, self-motivated sales professional that can work independently or in a team environment.
- Strong business sense and at least 5 years industry expertise selling products, engineering or systems into the pulp mill and/or powerhouse area.
- High technical aptitude familiar with application engineering.
- Effective time management skills and the ability to work within deadlines.
- Experience in representing the company at customer meetings.
- Willingness to travel extensively within the assigned territory.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Higher Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical preferred).
- Demonstrated sales experience in the pulp and paper industry.
- Strong industry technical expertise (boiler experience preferred).
